Finding which floor a worker is stuck on during a fire

An active RFID worker safety system for Maruti Suzuki India. My role was technical advisor: I led the architecture. This is one of my three consulting clients, and unlike the other two I did not personally code it.

Challenge

During a fire or other emergency, it matters where each worker is, and in a multi-floor building a position on a map is not enough. The system also has to answer which floor someone is stuck on.

Approach

I led the architecture of an active RFID system that locates workers both horizontally and vertically, including which floor someone is stuck on.
