Gigforce
From 100 gig workers to 4,000–5,000 as the first engineer
Gigforce is an on-demand gig staffing platform. I joined as its first engineer, and built the marketplace where 3PL and logistics companies posted ad hoc demand and gig workers registered themselves.
- 40–50xgig workforce growth: 100 to 4,000–5,000 across India
- 1 to ~15engineering team, starting with me as the only engineer
- US$3Mpre-Series A led by Endiya Partners, Sept 2021
Challenge
Logistics clients needed workers on ad hoc demand. Both sides of the market had to be able to onboard themselves, and there was no engineering team yet.
Approach
A self-serve two-sided marketplace
3PL and logistics companies posted ad hoc demand. Gig workers self-registered. I built onboarding for both sides.
The operating core
e-KYC, rostering, a matching engine and payouts, for clients like Delhivery, Flipkart, BigBasket, FreshToHome and Grab.
The team
I grew engineering from myself to about 15, with backend, frontend, DevOps, mobile, analytics and QA reporting to this role.
- 3PL and logistics companiesPost ad hoc demand
- Matching engineWith rostering
- Gig workersSelf-register, e-KYC, payouts
Results
- Grew the gig workforce from 100 to 4,000–5,000 workers across India (40–50x).
- Grew the team from 1 engineer to about 15.
- Helped secure the US$3M pre-Series A led by Endiya Partners by building the platform behind the scale story.
